The instant messaging market is heavily saturated with new apps trying to dethrone WhatsApp, Viber, and Messenger to become the leader in mobile communication. That is definitely a tough job for anyone! Let's check out imo and see if it has what it takes.
Getting started and supported features
imo is available as a free download. After downloading the app and verifying your phone number, you are ready to go. The mobile app supports standard text messaging, HD-quality voice chatting, and video calls. It features its own sticker library, and group video calls are fully supported.A clean interface with massive reach
The Android version of the app has been downloaded over one billion times, which actually places it at the very top of the market alongside the major powerhouses. imo enjoys a clean design, and one-to-one chatting can feel much less cluttered without being interrupted by the bloated features that Messenger offers, for example.
You are still able to send photos, videos, and files, or you can even draw something directly on your screen. The video and voice calls are high-quality, and that is something that can set imo apart from the competition. Besides that, it is essentially just another instant messaging app offering fewer tools than its biggest rivals.Encryption protocols and everyday use
While imo now states that its privacy chats and calls feature end-to-end encryption, the platform has historically faced scrutiny over its data sharing and past lack of transparency regarding these protocols. Otherwise, it is a capable app, but it is not a strict necessity for your phone, and it might not be worth talking all your friends and family into downloading it.
